    We therefore prefer to receive guests Sunday Thursday During the summer and during Ramadan the theatre has limited opening hours We kindly ask all visitors to respect local customs when visiting the theatre We recommend that you dress modestly i e women should not wear low cut tops t shirts tank tops shorts or short skirts and men should avoid shorts or sleeveless shirts If you wish to stay with families in the camp please let us know at least one week beforehand so that we can make arrangements The cost for a family stay including dinner and breakfast is 120 NIS per person and night The Freedom Theatre is a not for profit organisation and we rely on outside contributions to keep our many programs and projects running All donations to The Freedom Theatre are highly appreciated How to get to The Freedom Theatre There are buses and shared taxis in Arabic service between Jenin and all the main cities in the West Bank From Betlehem you can also travel via Jerusalem Ramallah or Nablus From Jerusalem Ramallah From Damascus Gate in East Jerusalem there is a bus to Ramallah The station is located on Nablus road and buses usually run until 7 8 pm From Ramallah take a shared taxi or bus from the central bus station where the bus from Jerusalem drops you In Jenin you arrive at the garage bus and service station in the city center from there take a private taxi to Jenin refugee camp muhayem Jenin and The Freedom Theatre Masrah il Hurriyeh Nowadays the Jalameh checkpoint is open which enables visitors to come in to the West Bank from north of Jenin for example from Haifa Nazareth and Afula but there are no buses or shared taxis so transport has to be

    professional theatre productions holds amateur drama workshops and runs a three year educational program in acting We offer training in photography and publish books photography exhibitions and short films Through professional training within the fields of theatre and multimedia The Freedom Theatre has substantially increased local artistic capacity and developed an extensive network of partners and supporters in Occupied Palestine and throughout the world Cultural Resistance Although The Freedom Theatre s focus is on theatre and visual arts we do not take a neutral position on the issue of Israeli apartheid colonization occupation and military rule Nor do we turn a blind eye to the internal violation of human rights in particular the rights of women and children For the oppressed the arts have always been and will always be a powerful tool against the oppressors For us Palestinians artistic expression is an integrated part of our struggle for justice equality and freedom Jenin Refugee Camp The Freedom Theatre operates in Jenin Refugee Camp which is among the most severely affected areas by decades of Israeli occupation and internal conflicts Jenin camp is largely isolated culturally economically and politically This sense of isolation runs deep within the camp and particularly

    chosen to live and work among the Palestinians challenged the children with possibilities for an alternative reality Arna won the Right Livelihood Award also known as the Alternative Nobel Prize in 1993 for her passionate commitment to the defense and education of the children of Palestine With the award money she built The Stone Theatre which was later destroyed in the Israeli invasion of the refugee camp in 2002 The Intifada for us and for our children is a struggle for freedom We call our children project Learning and Freedom These are not just words They are the basis of our struggle There is no freedom without knowledge There is no peace without freedom Peace and freedom are bound together Bound together Arna Mer Khamis Read more on Arna s active memorial site Arna s work is documented in the internationally awarded film Arna s Children which gives some fascinating background to The Freedom Theatre The film is directed by Juliano Mer Khamis Arna s son who in 2006 co founded The Freedom Theatre Juliano was the General Director of the theatre until 2011 when he was brutally assassinated by an unknown enemy of culture and freedom Thanks to the support from friends around the world the staff and board members managed to keep the theatre going and growing ever stronger Just as The Freedom Theatre was built on the inspiration and legacy of Arna Juliano s mother so will its future work be built on the legacy of Juliano It will carry on his message to promote freedom not only for the Palestinian people but for all human beings We are mourning but we will continue our resistance through art continue our struggle continue to do our better than best As Juliano would say The Revolution must go on
