    and we sought them out because we found inspiration in each other s work This is third world talking to third world without the first world telling us who to talk to or what to talk about Sudhanva Deshpande Jana Natya Manch Watch this video on YouTube This south south solidarity project will not only be the first joint India Palestine theatre production but also the largest cultural exchange between the two countries involving hundreds of individuals ranging from world renowned artists to students and factory workers contributing thousands of hours in kind Dozens of cultural organisations and individuals have endorsed the initiative Sometimes the most difficult experiences are what bind us together Janam and The Freedom Theatre have suffered the loss of friends as a consequence of intolerance we are connected by experiences of resisting oppression in search of freedom The oak of colonialism and the steadfast resistance against it connect our histories India has liberated itself from colonialism but is facing new forms of intolerance injustice and oppression Palestine is still struggling to achieve independence We hope this initiative will be the beginning of a colourful cultural collaboration between India and Palestine uniting our struggles for justice equality and freedom through art Jonatan Stanczak The Freedom Theatre In November 2015 eight students and artists from The Freedom Theatre will arrive in India for training and rehearsals in Delhi Indian theatre workers will train The Freedom Theatre s students in voice movement and theatre techniques In the evenings Janam and The Freedom Theatre will rehearse a theatre production that will focus on stories that unite us Through December 2015 and January 2016 the production will tour in India with a total of over 30 performances and events involving local artists dancers musicians and writers In April 2016 Janam will

    was founded by Jonathan Fox and Jo Salas in 1975 It is now used in over 60 countries as a way to promote community building and collective trauma response Numerous initiatives also use Playback to address poverty caste racial discrimination violence against women homophobia militarism environmental degradation climate change and other issues DATES 15th 28th October 2015 ITINERARY 15 Oct 5pm arrival in Jenin Refugee Camp 16 22 Oct Workshop in Jenin 23 Oct Travel to Aroub Refugee Camp 24 27 Oct Workshop and performances in Aroub 28 Oct Course ends at 9am LOCATION Jenin Refugee Camp and Aroub Refugee Camp occupied Palestine LANGUAGE Language of instruction will be English Translation into Arabic will be provided SELECTION CRITERIA Prior experience with Playback Theatre is not required However priority will be given to applicants who hold at least 2 years of experience in the use of theatre or other arts based methods for community building and or sociopolitical change Only those who can commit to attending the entire intensive will be considered Minimum age is 18 years FACILITATOR BIO Ben Rivers was born in the UK and raised in Australia He specializes in the use of therapeutic and participatory theatre for community mobilization cultural activism and collective trauma response He has taught and practiced in Asia Australia Europe the Middle East and North America working extensively with communities impacted by structural oppression and political violence He is a founding member of The Freedom Theatre s Freedom Bus initiative Jenin Occupied Palestine and a Co founder of the Arab School of Playback Theatre Cairo Egypt He holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with a concentration in Drama Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies USA and is currently a PhD Candidate at the University of New England Australia His
