  • Foundations of Playback Theatre in Egypt | The Freedom Theatre
    Downtown Cairo WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION In this 4 day intensive you will learn and practice the basic elements of Playback Theatre In an environment of spontaneity creativity and fellowship each student will have a chance to experience the roles of Teller Conductor Musician and Actor The philosophy and application of Playback Theatre for community building cultural activism and trauma response will also be explored This workshop is designed for new and relatively new students LANGUAGE The workshop will be delivered in English with Arabic translation All participants must have a working knowledge of Arabic ACCREDITATION This workshop is accredited through The Freedom Theatre s Applied Theatre Institute an affiliate school of the New York based Centre for Playback Theatre Workshop hours can be counted towards an internationally recognized Diploma in Playback Theatre ORGANIZERS The Freedom Theatre s Applied Theatre Institute in partnership with Studio Emad Eddin THE FACILITATOR Ben Rivers was born in Scotland and raised in the UK and Australia He specializes in Playback Theatre Psychodrama and other applied and therapeutic theatre modalities Over the past 12 years he has worked in Australia North America and the Middle East with communities impacted by structural oppression political violence and collective trauma Ben currently directs the Trauma Response Training Program and the Freedom Bus initiative at The Freedom Theatre Occupied Palestine Ben holds a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Drama Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies USA THE FREEDOM BUS The Freedom Bus an initiative of The Freedom Theatre uses interactive theatre and cultural activism to bear witness raise awareness and build alliances throughout occupied Palestine and beyond Endorsers of the Freedom Bus include Alice Walker Angela Davis John Berger Judith Butler Maya Angelou Mairead Maguire Noam Chomsky Omar Barghouti Peter Brook and Ramy Essam
