  • Attention: Community Peacemaker Awards and Volunteer Recognition 2014
    available for 175 00 Please register here to attend This year we will be recognizing one exceptional individual from the community as well as one organization The nomination form is available here The Community Peacemaker Awards serve as the standard for acknowledging community activism that promotes collaborative conflict resolution in the Mohawk Valley The Peacemaker Program Inc will honor a resident of Oneida Herkimer or Madison Counties with our Community Peacemaker Award Additionally this year we will honor an organization from Oneida Herkimer or Madison Counties that works to promote peace and collaboration in our community ATTENTION Do you know a person or organization that uses innovative and collaborative approaches to help our community become a more peaceful place This is the time to acknowledge the good service performed all around us There are people and organizations that are diligently working to solve problems and bring people together Let us find them shake their hands and recognize their talents Our selection committee will choose one individual and one organization from the nominations The honorees will be recognized at our Community Peacemaker Breakfast on October 14th and presented artwork designed specifically for The Community Peacemaker award by Michelle Roberts an acclaimed local artist Our annual Community Peacemakers Award Breakfast will also honor those dedicated individuals who are exceptional all year long and who make our agency s mission possible This list includes our specialists mediators and arbitrators as well as our CCAP Child Custody Advocate Program and SDMC Surrogate Decision Making Committee volunteers We will also honor particular people chosen by their peers from our court system and community that work tirelessly for the good of the Peacemaker Program and their local areas The selection committee will be looking for nominees that use innovative techniques or ideas that show appreciable change in our community people who live kind compassionate and generous lives For example the person or organization may have established a mentoring program created a safe place for children after school established a community discussion panel to bring awareness to their neighborhood issues planted a community garden developed a creative fund raiser or worked in a peer program that showed improvement in bullying We are taking nominations from the public If you know a person or business in the Mohawk Valley who helps make this community a more peaceful place consider nominating them by filling out the online form ATTENTION The nomination form is available here Volunteers and donors are eligible to attend the event for free Please contact us to obtain a discount code Invest in Your Community The Peacemaker Program Inc provides a continuum of services including skill development dispute resolution programs and child advocacy services through the use of carefully trained volunteers Our mission is to offer inclusive innovative approaches to resolve conflict and achieve positive outcomes for children families and the community Please consider supporting our efforts Amount USD EUR GBP CHF AUD HKD CAD JPY NZD SGD SEK DKK PLN HUF CZK ILS MXN Upcoming

    to the Character and Fitness Committee for the Fifth District in 1992 Judge Siegel was appointed to the New York State Supreme Court in December 2011 He has served on many community and civic organizations such as the Utica College Board of Trustees and Executive Committee Ronald McDonald Charities of Central New York and as President of the Charles T Sitrin Home Judge Siegel and his Wife Ann reside in New Hartford They are the parents of three children and have six grandchildren Tracy Soules writes It is a great honor to have the opportunity to nominate Hon Norman I Siegel for the Community Peacemaker Award individual In both his professional and private life he has demonstrated his compassion for others and an outstanding ability to lead and inspire others to practice mindful living He strives to practice and cultivate moment to moment awareness of others These are just a few of his attributes that give him distinction In his profession as a Supreme Court Justice for the 5th Judicial District of NY he must deal with challenging issues and conflict both on a legal basis and personal basis His peaceful demeanor and his kind and common sense are brought into every situation by his actions and his words He has a delightful humor that fills the room and puts everyone at ease especially when faced with highly emotional tense and hostile issues Parties thoroughly enjoy appearing before him because he insists on respect and kindness Judge Siegel will tirelessly attempt to bring the parties together and guide them toward a resolution He has the talent and skills to facilitate communication clarify issues and generate creative options for a resolution that is tailored to the specific needs and interest of the parties He comes in early stays late and works through lunch when necessary to keep negotiations flowing towards a settlement He strongly believes in the benefits of settlement and peaceful mindful meetings among parties Judge Siegel understands that reaching an agreement or a settlement can reduce trauma cost and delay to parties and their families and that is one of the reasons he is a true advocate of mediation and collaborative conflict resolutions On a personal level his desire to help others runs deep in the grain of his personality and beliefs His endless acts of mindfulness kindness and generosity just seem to flow from his mind and body almost automatically Judge Siegel takes the time to think about what would bring joy to someone and then he takes action on it He is a man full of offers Offering up his time money wisdom humor advice material items just about anything that would help or assist you when in need Seldom do you run across a man of better temperament I don t believe that many have seen him angry or upset although I m sure he has had plenty of provocation at times Especially from me His mindful thinking makes an appreciable difference in peoples lives everyday

    perceptive Nurse gave me hug a cross and a prayer book My Savior on a day when I really needed that hug All of those little actions and the ability to connect make such an appreciable impact that enrich the lives of people around us A visit or admission to the hospital when a loved one is ill can be very intimidating and overwhelming St Elizabeth staff is able to humanize the experience and remove some of the trauma patients and family feel My family and I are among the thousands of people that benefit from the valuable services education and emotional support they have to offer History of St Elizabeth Medical Center which supports this nomination M ISSION St Elizabeth Medical Center Community inspired by St Francis of Assisi and faithful to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church is committed to excellence in healthcare and education We pledge to do this with compassion and respect for the dignity for all HISTORY The hospital was established in 1866 by the Sisters of St Francis in a small house on Columbia Street that was donated by St Joseph Church in Utica Two Sisters were especially important in this work Mother Marianne Cope and Mother M Bernardina In 1862 Mother Marianne entered religious life in Syracuse and participated in the establishment of St Elizabeth Hospital in Utica and St Joseph s Hospital in Syracuse two of the first hospitals in Central New York and among the first 50 general hospitals in the U S Mother Marianne Cope was canonized a saint October 21 2012 based upon her work caring for women and children with leprosy on the Hawaiian Islands with five other Sisters for 35 years Mother M Bernardina is the founder of the Order of St Francis a religious community of Sisters in Syracuse New York She was a teacher at St Joseph School in Utica but the black robed Franciscan often made her way through the streets of West Utica to visit the sick She often found poverty and neglect and resolved to find a place where the sick could be cared for by the Sisters Today St Elizabeth Medical Center SEMC now located at 2209 Genesee St is a 25 acre facility with 201 beds Much has changed since the days of a one bed facility Additions have been built and technology has advanced greatly but through it all we maintain the beliefs of our founding Sisters Each person has the right to quality healthcare and the hospital strives to administer to the whole person to promote physical spiritual and emotional wellness SCOPE OF SERVICES St Elizabeth now includes the Area Trauma Center Mohawk Valley Heart Institute Mohawk Valley Sleep Disorders Center Marian Medical Professional Building and five schools The College of Nursing The School of Radiography The St Elizabeth Family Medicine Residency Program the Fellowship in Hospital Medicine and the Fellowship in Gynecologic Endoscopy St Elizabeth Medical Center operates 16 clinics with approximately 122 000 patient visits
