    Jersey Invasive Species Strike Team and the New Jersey Conservation Foundation hosted a workshop on existing and emerging invasive species in New Jersey as well as the impact climate change might have on the spread of invasives NJISST s Susan Brookman led the presentation which covered the importance of recognizing and reacting to the spread of invasive species in the Garden State She introduced the Invasive Species Strike Team app

  • Moving Beyond the Barnegat Bay Watershed: Using Partnerships to Improve Water Quality - The Watershed Institute
    been possible The Council will consider the testimony in recommending to NJDEP Commissioner Bob Martin the most viable opportunities to foster such collaborations NJDEP will make any final decision regarding next steps based on a variety of factors including water quality issues measurable results ability to leverage available resources and public input Please note that the Council is not seeking testimony on Barnegat Bay technical or scientific issues SPEAKERS 9 00 a m to 10 30 a m Bob Martin NJDEP Commissioner will provide an overview of how the lessons learned from the Governor s Barnegat Bay Initiative and other areas could be used to inform NJDEP s future work NJDEP staff will present an overview of the Barnegat Bay Initiative as a case study for partnerships in clean water protection and restoration Partnership Presenter TBA will discuss an additional partnership effort for clean water Q A Discussion will begin after the speakers followed by a break Public Testimony will begin at 10 30 a m or as soon as possible following the break REQUEST FOR TESTIMONY The Council seeks recommendations regarding how various interests have implemented or could pursue cooperative approaches to enhance and protect water quality in all New Jersey watersheds Testimony should consider for existing planned and proposed partnerships How does your partnership work to effectively protect and restore clean water Please be specific How should NJDEP help structure facilitate and support effective partnerships and participation What opportunities exist to leverage partnership resources and funding for better success What communication techniques and strategies should be used to advance work of the partnerships and to inform and engage the public HOW TO TESTIFY The Council will provide 5 minutes per oral presentation and strongly encourages the submittal of detailed written comments by email or on paper to augment

  • Fixing Flooding: One Community at a Time - The Watershed Institute
    Join us and our partners at the Middlesex County Fire Academy on February 26th at our day long conference about managing stormwater to reduce flooding This conference will bring together municipal leaders leading professionals in planning and engineering watershed associations advocacy groups environmental commissions and state and federal agencies to learn from the Rutgers Cooperative Extension RCE Water Resources Program and its partners This conference will provide information on how we can work together to fix flooding problems in your community There will be an opportunity to hear how your community can identify opportunities for implementing green infrastructure moreover how these opportunities can be woven into a comprehensive action plan that will enable your community to tackle flooding issues in your town Case studies will be presented on community based green infrastructure initiatives that make sense and address water resources issues by engaging local leaders and residents Presentations will identify how to modify local ordinances and master plans to encourage building green infrastructure This conference will provide attendees with an opportunity to meet potential partners that can help them address flooding and water quality problems as well as secure funding to help them begin moving forward To register and learn

    Trenton New Jersey 8 00am 6 00pm For Conference Workshop List click here CLICK HERE TO REGISTER What is the New Jersey Land Conservation Rally The annual New Jersey Land Conservation Rally is one of the nation s largest statewide conservation training events The event is a daylong educational experience offering workshops plenary sessions and networking opportunities At least 300 conservationists attend each year All workshops are at least 75 minutes long and multiple sessions run concurrently Who is the audience The New Jersey Land Conservation Rally attracts a diverse audience Here is the breakdown of 2015 attendees 51 represented land conservation nonprofits including land trusts that acquire land nonprofits that steward land and watershed associations 20 from government entities including federal state county and municipal leaders from government offices and volunteers serving on open space committees and environmental commissions 8 from universities 7 from private companies that support land conservation such as environmental consulting firms and trail builders 14 others including foundation representatives and unaffiliated individuals The experience and skills of Rally vary tremendously from professionals with years of experience to new volunteers and students Related Google Calendar iCal Export Details Date March 18 Organizer The New Jersey Conservation
