    management efforts Joan oversees many projects including the TreePhilly Program street tree planting and maintenance natural lands restoration and the FarmPhilly Program Joan joined PPR in 2006 and has a BS in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh She s also on the advisory council of the TTF Watershed Partnership Erica Smith Fichman TreePhilly Program Manager Erica joined PP R in 2011 to develop an urban forestry outreach and education program Working with Joan they launched the highly successful TreePhilly Program in 2012 which includes the Yard Tree Giveaway Program as well as other programs to encourage street tree planting and volunteer tree plantings in parks and recreation centers Erica has a BS in Biology from Haverford College and an MS in Environmental Horticulture from the University of California Davis and she is an ISA Certified Arborist She also serves on the board of University City Green in West Philadelphia Katy Ament TreePhilly Program Assistant Katy is TreePhilly s seasonal program assistant for Fall 2015 Spring 2016 In addition to coordinating logistics for Yard Tree Giveaways Katy is working on a data analysis project to determine new progress markers and assess new areas of focus for the TreePhilly program Katy has a BA in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Sustainable Food Systems and American Studies from Temple University Andrew Emma TreeKeepers Program Manager Andrew manages the TreeKeepers program a workforce development initiative that maintains trees and green spaces at neighborhood parks playgrounds and recreation centers across the city Andrew has continued to develop and expand the program since its launch in 2011 both in terms of crew size and scope of work In addition to TreeKeepers Andrew has managed public space plantings for TreePhilly organizing plantings at several PPR sites and other public spaces Andrew has a

    opens approximately one month prior to the events and allows participants to select their preferred pick up event and species Registration is strongly encouraged but we generally accept walk ins at the end of each event while supplies last You can sign up for registration announcements here Yard Tree Information We offer a variety of species each season ranging from large shade trees to small fruit and flowering trees Upon pick up trees will be in 5 gallon buckets and will be from 2 10 tall Trees will fit in a car truck grocery cart or even on the bus See information on how to get your tree home safely here Species Selection When choosing a species please consider the available space in your yard for roots and branches as well as how much sun your yard gets each day Please also consider the difficulty of each species some grow well with little maintenance while others particularly fruit trees require expert pruning and care to thrive See the list of available trees here Planting Location For advice on where in your yard to plant your tree check out Right Tree Right Place from the Arbor Day Foundation If your yard is paved or concreted and you have nowhere to plant a tree please consider applying for the Philadelphia Water Department s Rain Check program This innovative cost sharing program enables Philadelphia property owners to make affordable stormwater management improvements to their properties including concrete removal and porous paver installation Planting Care We partner with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society PHS to offer tree planting and care demonstrations at each giveaway event We ll also send you home with a free bag of mulch from the Fairmount Park Organic Recycling Center and educational materials that will help you properly plant and care
