  • TNLA Kicks off Texas Water Smart Campaign — 2016 Texas Nursery & Landscape Association
Texas water Water conservation is the key to prevent industry crippling water restrictions Recently in communities all over Texas water utilities proposed bans on outdoor watering in an attempt to save the precious resource by turning off the faucet Plus for the first time in history the Texas Water Development Board predicts a water deficit within 10 years because of population growth driven by Texas prosperity As a founding member of the Texas Water Smart Coalition TNLA needs your support as we work with local government leaders industry professionals suppliers and retail garden centers to teach Texans how to conserve water and maintain a healthy and beautiful outdoor environment The Water Smart Coalition plans to launch a full scale public education campaign designed to encourage consumers to make educated and valuable choices regarding the landscape design irrigation plant selection and other water conservation techniques Most of the education material is already compiled and ready to go out Now we need your contribution to help push that message out Local government and utility officials are watching to see if the industry and our partners can successfully encourage consumers to save water If we don t they will turn off the tap We ve been working together as a team since late last year and you ve already heard about some of our success The North Texas Municipal Water District decided to postpone the implementation of stage 4 water restrictions but they and other water utilities have made it very clear either we promote greater conservation among consumers or they will through regulation The Water Smart Coalition partners have already conducted market research and found that over 90 of Texas consumers surveyed reported drought related damage to their landscape and over 50 would plan to replace or repair damage if they had
