  • UAC Thanksgiving Basket Program | Urban Affairs Coalition
    with a Thanksgiving dinner Last year UAC with partners Brown s Shoprite distributed 1 000 baskets feeding 6 000 individuals Due to an increased demand this year s goal is to feed 1 100 families In the past costs of matching funds have been supported by the Department of Community and Economic Development however these funds are no longer available so UAC is asking for your help in the fight against hunger To donate towards the Annual Thanksgiving Basket Program click here On Saturday November 22nd volunteers from across the city will assemble the Thanksgiving baskets for distribution Last year 100 volunteers gather to stuff 1 000 baskets in only 58 minutes A press conference about the Thanksgiving Basket Program will be held at the Shoprite of Oregon Avenue on Monday November 24th beginning at 9am Paul Brauer Vice President of Brown s Super Stores Inc Sharmain Matlock Turner President and CEO of UAC and other community leaders will discuss the impact and the importance of this vital program Immediately following the press conference a group of volunteers begin distributing the baskets Tags News Publications Food Bank Economic Development Food Security Neighborhood and Communities Recreation Service Initiatives Subscribe to our

    FY 2013 Some of the major accomplishments include organizing the Housing Counseling Roundtable Initiative to increase support for the local housing counseling industry organizing 150 financial education workshops for 1 353 participants organizing four Financial Advancement Network FAN Clubs with 21 graduates in addition to creating six more clubs in the Germantown area of Philadelphia in partnership with Citizens Bank CED also coordinated the PHIL Plus and Mini PHIL Home Improvement Loan Program with 18 closed loans for 276 903 Housing Counseling Initiative CED recently collaborated with the NeighborWorks Training Institute for a luncheon Building Collaborative Support for High Impact Counseling Services hosted by Citi Community Development The event drew close to 90 participants and discussed the value of collaboration and partnerships to support housing counseling CED Committee Quarterly Meeting The Honorable Judge Annette Rizzo spoke at CED s committee quarterly meeting on Wednesday October 9 2013 Judge Rizzo gave information on the financial education program that is part of the Diversion Court and the opportunity it presents for bank support and community involvement Tags News Publications Development Economic Development Economic Inclusion Equitable and Sustainable Housing Financial Literacy Subscribe to our Newsletter About Us History UAC Impacts President s Corner
