  • The 2013 ResilienC Symposium | Urban Affairs Coalition
    effectively building safer and innovative communities and preparing them for the future Tuesday s symposium will introduce research and program models for best practices in bettering our communities Individuals will see the different methods other cities are using successfully and identify ways to achieve the same outcomes in their own neighborhoods The purpose of the ResilienC Symposium is to start a conversation that will result in better communities for citizens by discussing key issues that affect neighborhoods The symposium will cover a variety of safety security and public health topics including crime prevention through environmental design living within mixed income communities food deserts and their effect on community safety and public health as well as the future of Urbanism as it relates to safety and building sustainable communities This event will provide an opportunity for educators leaders and government officials to build relationships for future endeavors Jeremy Nowak President of J Nowak and Associates LLC a consulting firm that provides strategic counsel to business and innovative governments will provide the keynote address in addition to five other presenters and a panel discussion Other speakers include Story Bellows and Jeff Friedman Co Directors of the Office of New Urban Mechanics Danielle DiLeo Kim Director of Special Projects Philadelphia Planning Commission Philadelphia2035 Dr Mindy Fullilove Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Columbia University s Mailman School of Public Health Rosetta Carrington Lue Chief Customer Service Officer for the City of Philadelphia Director of Philly311 Dr Samuel Little founding President of NAR SAAH J Phillip Thompson Associate Professor of Urban Planning at MIT The 2013 ResilienC Symposium will be held at Houston Hall at the University of Pennsylvania located on 3417 Spruce Street 100 Bodek Lounge from 8am 3 30pm The cost of attendance is 10 for students 25 for regular registration which includes
