    We are pleased to welcome anyone from an individual volunteer to a group of up to 50 people at one time Over the years we have hosted a diverse array of corporate groups schools summer camps university groups congregations alternative spring break programs and service groups We can accommodate people of every age skill level and physical ability What is a typical volunteer experience like We recommend that volunteers schedule a three hour block of time ideally in the morning though we are happy to accommodate each group s particular needs and interests Depending on our current priorities volunteers might help with projects such as planting weeding harvesting crops picking up trash and recycling building raised beds or fences clearing new garden sites or mowing We always ensure that there are appropriate tasks available for volunteers of all ages and for those with physical limitations Often children from the neighborhoods where we work will join in the effort giving volunteers a personal sense of the people they are helping What do volunteers need to bring Volunteers should wear work clothes and sturdy footwear that they do not mind getting dirty In addition volunteers should bring water bottles and may want to consider bringing sun screen and insect repellant Urban Tree Connection will supply all volunteers with work gloves and any tools necessary for the day s project We do happily accept donations of tools and other garden implements and we maintain a Wish List of items that we particularly need When can volunteers work with Urban Tree Connection We welcome volunteers throughout the spring summer and fall with occasional special projects during the winter months if weather permits Volunteers can sign up to join us Monday Friday Saturdays and some Sundays To schedule a volunteer project please email Urban Tree

    develop leadership skills through growing harvesting and distributing their own fruits and vegetables to neighbors The Veggie Kids meet on weekday afternoons between April 1 and November 1 at the Pearl Conestoga Gardens Conestoga Way Vine Street and at the Memorial Garden 54th Street and Wyalusing Avenue Teen Apprenticeship Program ages 14 18 In this 10 month program high school aged youth cultivate leadership skills in farming landscaping marketing and nutrition through paid apprenticeships with UTC Teen apprentices have the opportunity to work closely with UTC staff who serve as mentors and role models for these aspiring future community leaders Adult Programs Garden Plots Workshare Program Community members can sign up for garden plots where they can grow their own fruits vegetables and flowers In addition adults can help out on the farm each week in exchange for free fruits and vegetables Community Farmers Market From May through November community members run a Farmers Market on Saturdays from 10 00 AM 2 00 PM near Urban Tree Connection s 3 4 acre Neighborhood Foods Farm 53rd Street and Wyalusing Avenue Residents can purchase fresh locally grown produce at inexpensive prices Community Classes On the third Thursday of every month from 1 00 PM 3 00 PM Urban Tree Connection offers free health wellness and arts workshops for adults Recent topics have included soap making therapeutic massage growing kitchen gardens and canning fruits and vegetables Look for flyers with information on upcoming classes Childcare is provided as needed Urban Farming Neighborhood Foods Farm In 2010 Urban Tree Connection became the legal conservator of this long abandoned 3 4 acre property on the 600 Block of North 53rd Street which had been home to a construction company for many years After significant remediation and clean up Urban Tree Connection has developed a
