  • 5 Americans Qualify for Snowboardcross Finals | USSA - Foundation

    The team will be named later this month Seth Wescott Sugarloaf ME was set for a comeback after a knee took him out of competition in March but he missed qualifying by 02 on Friday Olympic medalist Lindsey Jacobellis Stratton Mountain VT took her 38th career podium in third with World Cup leader Dominique Maltais of Canada sealing the victory for the women Jackie Hernandez Londonderry VT finished ninth with Callan Chythlook Sifsof Girdwood AK and Faye Gulini Salt Lake City taking 23rd and 26th The riders take to the hill again for another snowboardcross World Cup Sunday the fourth and final snowboardcross event before the 2014 Olympic Winter Games at Sochi QUOTES Trevor Jacob I m speechless It s just so cool to be out here with all these dudes that I didn t know how I d compare to and it s just cool to come out here and be on the top The fire is here for boardercross It was never really there for halfpipe I kind of got talked into pipe because I was good at it but this boardercross is something for myself and is super meaningful and I can do it for the right reasons I love this country and it s great to race here The slope was absolutely perfect Great preparations and great race organization Lindsey Jacobellis Today was okay In the final heat I had a terrible start and cased the first three jumps and knew I wasn t going to win but knew the podium was still feasible I passed two people in between turns two and three and carried some good speed passing another rider in the end Getting back on the podium makes me feel like Canada wasn t a fluke and that I m still riding well and can pull this off Even though I m sore I m excited for tomorrow s race And when I don t win I have the fire so yeah tomorrow will be fun Peter Foley Snowboardcross Head Coach Today was awesome It s amazing to see these guys stepping up and getting faster and faster at each race and to have that many of our riders in the big final and Alex Deibold in the small final It s just so hard to accomplish that and was really amazing to see From the very first time we brought him to camp I thought Trevor was super talented and the progression from that to this his first world cup win has been amazing to see Lindsey rode great in all the heats making solid passes and good racing She had a small bobble in the start of the final heat and the way this course was racing if you had a mistake in the top section it was really hard to make up But she rode great and it s always good to see her on the podium RESULTS Official Men s Results Official Women s Results LINKS Facebook Twitter USSA

    season opener on Saturday Olympic medalist Lindsey Jacobellis Stratton Mountain VT won the small final race and finished seventh in her first snowboardcross event in nearly two years Jacobellis came out on top of each heat she entered with the exception of the semi final where she crashed and was bumped into the small final She won her final with authority U S Snowboarding teammates Callan Chythlook Sifsof Girdwood AK Faye Gulini Salt Lake City UT and Brooke Shaw Litchfield CT finished 19th 22nd and 30th respectively Czech rider Eva Samkova took the victory for the women In the men s snowboardcross opener Jonathan Cheever Saugus MA took the top spot for the U S in 13th while Hagen Kearney Telluride CO finished 14th There were six top 30 U S results on the men s side including Robert Minghini Snowshoe WV in 16th Mick Dierdorff Steamboat Springs CO in 17th Alex Tuttle Sugarloaf ME in 27th and Trevor Jacob Mammoth Lakes CA in 29th Olympian Nick Baumgartner Iron River MI crashed into a gate and finished 43rd Markus Schairer of Austria won the men s race On Sunday the riders take to the Montafon course again to race men s and women s team snowboardcross QUOTES Peter Foley Head U S Snowboarding Coach It s great to have Lindsey back after two years and she s racing great She won the early rounds by a mile and had an unfortunate crash in the round of twelve and then won the small final by a mile which is great to see It s hard not having Wescott and Holland here we re all really looking forward to having them back on snow and back with the team RESULTS Official Men s Results Official Women s Results LINKS Facebook Twitter USSA
