  • Impaired Waters in the Watershed
    federal standard may be unsafe for swimming The Vermillion River Watershed contains 27 lakes or stream reaches that are impaired The impairments range from biological fish and macroinvertebrates turbidity low dissolved oxygen E coli and fecal coliform to excess nutrients The Vermillion River Watershed Joint Powers Organization VRWJPO is conducting a watershed wide investigation of these impaired waters to define the sources of pollution and develop a strategy to restore these waters to their intended uses and protect other lakes and streams from becoming impaired The project is called a Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy WRAPS and is funded by the MPCA Outcomes of the WRAPS including the stressor identification report monitoring and assessment report and other documents are located on the MPCA website The VRWJPO is developing FAQs that provide specific information for cities and townships about impaired water bodies within their jurisdictions see attachment list below Attachments File File size FAQ WRAPS and Impaired Waters 3 10 14 pdf 1015 Kb Impaired Waters Map Vermillion River Watershed 647 Kb Vermillion River Watershed TMDL DRAFT 10 21 2014 1934 Kb Vermillion River Watershed TMDL Appendix A Turbidity 1786 Kb Vermillion River Watershed TMDL Appendix B E coli 8366 Kb

  • Vermillion River Corridor Plan
    financial incentives for projects that provide benefits to water quality wildlife habitat and recreation within the corridor A key focus in the plan is to acquire easements along the river from willing sellers More than 1 5 million of state and local funding is available Grant applications for projects were due to Dakota County on December 1 2010 More help is available Landowners and local government officials can match river friendly practices technical assistance and funding sources by searching a website intended to help improve the Vermillion River How was the plan developed A series of three workshops provided opportunities for corridor residents and stakeholders to add their voices to the plan Workshop 1 A river worth protecting was held during June and July 2009 Read highlights from Workshop 1 in attachment below Workshop 2 Working together was offered on December 2 and December 7 2009 Read highlights from Workshop 2 in attachment below Workshop 3 Putting the plan into action was held April 26 and April 28 2010 Read highlights from Workshop 3 in attachment below An open house to review the draft plan s concepts was held September 23 2010 in Farmington This project is funded by the
