  • Ding-A-Lings To Reunite At Vietnam Veterans of America's National Convention
    the singer dancers have appeared together The Ding a Lings were created in 1970 when the producer of the Dean Martin TV variety show chose four women from the ranks of Dean s Golddiggers the dancing singing troupe of women who performed in the show That year the Ding a Lings took part in the 1970 71 Bob Hope USO Christmas tour which included many stops entertaining the troops in Vietnam We believe the Ding a Lings reunion will resonate with all Vietnam veterans attending the Awards Banquet said VVA National President John Rowan They will show off the same spirit they had three decades ago performing for the troops in the war zone in Vietnam They are excited about getting back together and we look forward to the reunion very much DellaFave Bailey and McIver will perform one of their old numbers at the Awards Banquet the culminating event of the five day Convention The event also will include arts awards presentations to Vietnam veteran Bill Nelson of HBO and the singer Nancy Sinatra who also entertained the troops in Vietnam An estimated 700 delegates from local chapters will join hundreds of other Vietnam veterans and guests at the

    The Wall in Washington D C The ceremonies begin at 1 00 p m on Monday May 28 Thousands of veterans family members and friends are expected to attend the event in 2007 the 25th anniversary year of The Wall s dedication It s a great honor and privilege to take part in this year s Memorial Day ceremonies at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rowan said I attended the dedication ceremonies in November of 1982 an event I never will forget All Americans owe a debt to Jan Scruggs and his colleagues at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation who conceived of the idea for the Memorial and fought so hard to have it built Vietnam Veterans of America is proudly helping commemorate the Memorial s 25th anniversary this year including VVA s sponsorship of the official 25th Anniversary Vietnam Veterans Memorial Parade which will be held in Washington on Saturday November 10 Representatives of other veterans organizations will join Rowan who served in the U S Air Force directing bombing missions in Vietnam at the ceremonies which will be hosted by Retired Army Gen Barry McCaffrey The event is sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and the National Park

  • VA Budget Proposal Still Billions Short, Disenfranchises Thousands of Veterans
    Rowan This report reiterates the need for much better training and standardized certification of adjudicators at VA better training for VA s examining clinicians and adequate time and resources for examining clinicians to do their job properly at VA Further it notes that the onset of legitimate PTSD or a major relapse can occur at any time sometimes decades after the experience sparked by a variety of causes Rowan continued The report underscores the need for Congress to take urgent steps to ensure the VA implement the guidelines proffered by the Institute of Medicine regarding improved training certification of raters standardization of work products adjusting workloads of clinicians to allow them enough time to do their job properly the first time and accountability for quality of work by both clinicians and by the lay persons at every step in the process VA has already developed many of the tools necessary to improve the process to which the report refers such as the PTSD curriculum located at www va gov vhi or the already existing VA developed in 2002 guide named the Best Practice Manual for Post traumatic Stress Disorder PTSD Compensation Pension Examinations located at http www vva org Committees PTSD PTSDManualFinal6 pdf which could serve as a basis for operating and training until the VA can test other standard operating procedures and examining instruments specifically for PTSD Rowan noted VA has the tools now they need to just pick them up and use them correctly and with discipline VVA thanks the National Academies and the participating scientists for their careful work and for producing a report that the VA can start to implement before Memorial Day 2007 VVA calls on Secretary of Veterans Affairs Nicholson to embrace this report in the positive spirit in which it has been prepared
