    serve as the director Her background includes efforts in education peace and justice work and church renewal She has served in leadership positions in the Sisters of St Joseph of Peace an international Catholic religious order committed to peace through justice Suzanne also serves as the Sisters of St Joseph of Peace s non governmental organization NGO representative at the United Nations where she concentrates on sustainable development and environmental issues specifically water Joan E Carey SSJ Joan Carey is Assistant Director of WATERSPIRIT Joan is a Sister of St Joseph of Chestnut Hill Philadelphia Her background is in education and in law She taught in all levels but predominantly in High Schools Joan studied law and as an attorney worked in a non profit law office providing people who were poor access to the legal system Over time Joan s social justice work led to environmental justice interests Joan is currently on the board of Change for Global Change a non profit organization that provides grants to people in economically poor areas for funding sustainable projects such as water wells in developing countries where Sisters of Saint Joseph maintain a presence Joan has had a longstanding interest in eco

    with whom we partner is Religious on Water ROW ROW is a group of congregations of Roman Catholic women religious concerned about environmental issues related to oceans coastlines rivers lakes watersheds and all other water issues ROW is currently working on educating people about the adverse impact of the hydraulic fracking method of extracting natural gas ROW members and WATERSPIRIT members are concerned about the devastating affect this is having on the environment in particular the water and on the health of people and animals We see this as a moral issue and a practice that needs to be stopped for the well being of all life on Mother Earth COA We are also one of the coalition members of Clean Ocean Action COA and support them in some of their campaigns Some issues that WATERSPIRIT members have engaged in are The Clean Ocean Zone Legislation that COA helped to draft This bill would protect the ocean in the area of the New York New Jersey bight that extends from Montauk to Cape May We also partnered with COA to stop the proposals for Liquid Natural Gas Projects off the coast of New Jersey We worked on the committee planning
