    Report Support Winterthur Current Initiatives Garden Giving Opportunities in the Garden Embraced by a rural landscape Winterthur s naturalistic garden is set amid the rolling hills of Delaware s scenic Brandywine Valley Widely known for its succession of bloom and naturalistic design the garden flows imperceptibly into a landscape of quiet beauty Children and families enjoy Enchanted Woods casual visitors and members stroll the grounds and absorb the seasonal beauty and sophisticated gardeners seek out rare specimen plants and creative plant combinations As beautiful and popular as the garden is there is room to improve the grounds and enhance our educational programs You can designate your support of the garden to the area of greatest need or fund a specific garden project such as the ones listed below Garden Internship Program The Horticultural Internship Program at Winterthur was begun in 1991 and is a continuation of Henry Francis du Pont s love of horticulture While Winterthur s garden features a naturalistic design a great deal of time and effort goes into its maintenance and preservation The internship program helps to educate the next generation of horticulturalists by providing hands on technical experience and on the job training to six college students each year For the work that the students do here at Winterthur they receive a small stipend to help with their school tuition In exchange the interns give technical and practical contributions to the care of the garden and its programs in addition to bringing their enthusiasm to the entire Garden Division Tree Endowment Situated on nearly 1 000 acres in northern Delaware the Winterthur property features a picturesque countryside that is accented by innumerable trees The management and care of these trees and woodlands is a growing need for the institution as many mature trees require advanced care

    Business Associates Ways to Give Give Now Educational Programs Activities Donor Report Support Winterthur Current Initiatives Educational Programs Activities Giving Opportunities in Support of Educational Programs Activities Supporters of Family Programs at Winterthur can champion several different initiatives ranging from capital projects to special events You can designate your support of educational programming to the area of greatest need or donate to a specific program such as the ones listed below Touch It Room One of the nation s earliest spaces dedicated to hands on learning the Touch it Room at Winterthur provides an historically accurate setting for children to engage in imaginative exploration of the past Initially opened in 1960 the room was relocated and enhanced in the early 1990s The room is one of the prime attractions at Winterthur for families and would benefit from increased accessibility new lighting and a greater variety of interactive components Wee Ones at Winterthur Wee Ones at Winterthur a literacy based program for children ages 3 to 6 is offered twice a month from March through October During this hour long program children listen to a story explore related objects from the Winterthur demonstration collection and participate in activities that strengthen both fine and gross motor skills The program is a wonderful opportunity for parents or grandparents to introduce their children to the exciting world of museums and has been very successful Support for this program would help us add to our collection of quality children s books and allow us to purchase additional items for our demonstration collection Graduate Program Field Studies Each year students in the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture take part in field based learning opportunities which introduce them to prominent figures in the field expose them to new scholarship and broaden thier understanding of musuems antique
