    advance policies that protect fish and wildlife habitat and that promote public access to lands and water for outdoor recreation To promote strong conservation policy we Work with members of Wisconsin State Legislature and occasionally members of the US Congress Participate in rulemaking processes to ensure that the law is meaningfully implemented at the administrative level Work in coalition with other organizations to develop and advance policies important to our members For more information about our current policies and issues please see the Legislation section of our web site In addition to promoting conservation policy the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation is committed to educating young people about conservation and outdoor issues To help us achieve that goal we operate the MacKenzie Environmental Center MEEC one of the most diverse environmental education centers in Wisconsin In partnership with the DNR and Friends of the MacKenzie Center we work to provide hands on outdoor s environmental education to youth We also are one of the sponsors of the Wisconsin Green School Network WGSN which is a network of educators and other professionals committed to helping teachers to develop students environmental literacy while increasing academic achievement We provide field biologists to work with schools

    Merchandise Annual Prints Calendar Raffle Donate Our Mission The Wisconsin Wildlife Federation has a dual mission to engage in conservation education and to advocate for sound conservation policy The Federation s education focus is on the protection of fish and wildlife and their habitat and in the teaching of skills including hunting fishing trapping and other outdoor recreational pursuits Our efforts are largely focused on youth education We help the MacKenzie Environmental Center in Poynette grant scholarships for future resource professionals at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point provide wildlife educational trunks to schools for K 12 education send kids to summer conservation camps provide funding for youth outdoor skill days and support the Green School Network Field Corps We also are very active in promoting strong conservation policies before the Wisconsin Legislature the Department of Natural Resources and the US Congress The prime areas of conservation policy that we focus on are the protection of fish and wildlife habitat the protection of public access to lands and water for outdoor recreation assuring the right to hunt fish and trap and the pursuit of other outdoor recreational activities and the furtherance of conservation education with an emphasis on youth education

    Wisconsin Successfully petitioned DNR to restore the northern coyote season during the nine day gun deer season Successfully worked with other sports groups to pass a wolf management law authorizing hunting and trapping of wolves Worked with other groups to pass the Hunting Mentorship law and the Hunter Recruitment and Retention law Worked with other groups to pass the Concealed Carry law Successfully fought to get strong rules for public access for hunting fishing and trapping on Stewardship purchased lands Successfully filed an appeal to open roads closed by the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest Hundreds of miles of roads opened up as a result Worked successfully with Southeastern WI area field trialers to restore adequate field trialing at Bong Recreational Area Worked with the Wisconsin Trappers Association to successfully reform wild fur possession and sale statutes green fur bill Appealed four DNR decisions denying public access for trapping and hunting on lands purchased with Stewardship funds This appeal is resulting in 11 000 acres of land being opened to turkey hunting Successfully drafted and passed a bill streamlining laws for wetland restoration projects which will net Wisconsin millions of dollars to restore wetlands Worked with other groups to assure that
