    the monthly meeting location was moved once again to St Peter s Episcopal Church in Eggertsville NY where members still meet today In 2000 the WNYHS made two giant steps to reach and educate a wider audience of reptile and amphibian enthusiasts The WNYHS hosted its inaugural Annual Reptile Show and Sale in September of that year the first event of its kind in Western New York The Reptile Show encourages responsible captive breeding and ownership of herps by giving dedicated local breeders a venue to engage with interested buyers Visitors to the Show can learn about appropriate care and handling of reptile amphibian and invertebrate pets as well as wild herp conservation The year 2000 also saw the Society announce its presence on the Internet with its own website an outreach to the online herpetological community The website assists readers world wide to maintain healthy animals by providing care sheets a FAQ column staffed by knowledgeable experienced herp keepers and a virtual meeting room to share information In order to contribute to conservation of herps in the wild the Society helps protect turtle nest sites at Tillman Wildlife Management Area donates to wildlife rehabilitators and the Buffalo Zoo organizes herp field trips and participates in community education events The WNYHS furthers ongoing research in the field of Herpetology by awarding the annual Marv Aures Bob Krantz Herpetological Research Grant in one of the following areas New York State Herpetology Student Research in Herpetology Reptile and Amphibian Conservation Reptile and Amphibian Captive Management Husbandry and Propagation and Herpetology Education The Western New York Herpetological Society continues to pursue its founding goals with the support of members representing all aspects of the hobby The Society s membership includes respected breeders of captive species wildlife rehabilitators and rescuers veterinary professionals avid field

    great new location is easy to find minutes from the William Street exit of the Thruway and has ample well lit parking We are very appreciative of the staff of the Julia Boyer Reinstein library for warmly welcoming us to their facility Monthly meetings of the WNYHS are held on the third Wednesday of the month in the Community Room of the Julia Boyer Reinstein Library 1030 Losson Road Cheektowaga NY 14227 see map below The doors will open at 6 30 PM with a short business meeting starting at 6 45 PM The guest lecture will begin immediately after the conclusion of the business meeting A popular feature at each meeting is the Herp Show and Tell Members and guests are invited to bring along their reptiles amphibians and invertebrates to show them off and share their stories with other reptile and amphibian enthusiasts If you plan to bring your pets please be sure that they are in good health parasite free and in compliance with applicable local NYS and Federal laws You must transport them in a safe and suitable container carrier or snake bag and have control of them at all times If you would like to bring your animal to a meeting please take the time to read our Note About Bringing Herps to Events for more information Thank you for your cooperation to ensure a positive experience is enjoyed by all Anyone with an interest in herpetology is invited to our meetings you do not need to be a Society member to attend and participate Families with children are welcome and encouraged to visit We hope to see you at a WNYHS meeting soon Welcome About History Events Schedule Monthly Meetings September 2015 October 2015 November 2015 December 2015 Note About Bringing Herps to Events

    control of them at all times Beyond these basic guidelines the Herp Society appreciates the concerns expressed about possible health issues that could be associated with bringing herps out to meetings and takes suitable precautions to prevent problems from arising In regard to weather conditions we rely on the good judgement of herp owners to decide for themselves if it s safe to bring their animals to a meeting Many of us occasionally need to take a reptile or amphibian out in poor weather such as making a trip to the vet or purchasing and bringing home a new animal so the keeper would be best placed to determine if their herp can tolerate any such outing To help avoid the potential spread of communicable illnesses we provide hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes so visitors can sanitize their hands in between handling different animals This also provides a good teachable experience for newer herp keepers who might not yet have learned this important aspect of everyday husbandry Visitors who bring an animal always have the option to leave it in its carrier or if they choose to take it out they can request that other people not handle it We have found herp keepers to be very respectful of each other s animals in this regard Over the last 20 years of WNYHS meetings one of the things attendees have consistently enjoyed the most is having a chance to show off their favorite herps or invertebrates and discuss them with fellow herp enthusiasts We believe it s important to provide this unique opportunity to members and visitors who would like to participate in this way while also following safe husbandry practices There is never an expectation or obligation for anyone to bring a reptile or amphibian with them to a
