  • Yaz's Blog On The NUS Conference
Officer and an autonomous NUS Trans Liberation Campaign As UWSU delegates we weren t able to collectively vote on this motion as personal opinion happened to get in the way of this motion However all our other delegates voted in favour of a full time paid Trans officer we have an active LGBT and Trans community in our union that we welcome and support My only concern from the conference is NUS getting deeply involved in party politics and not actually focusing on matters that affect its members The political fractions within the movement are distracting us from the real issues that our students are more concerned with When we volunteered to represent our students in elections we promised to represent them and not a political party I hope the newly elected President and the team will focus more on representing students and not drag us down the line of party politics This is the time for us to begin seeing the value of our affiliation fee to NUS The newly elected NUS full time officers for the next Academic year are Malia Bouattia President Sorana Vieru Vice President Higher Education Richards Brooks Vice President Union Development Robbie Young Vice President Society and Citizenship Shelly Asquith Vice President Welfare Shakira Martin Vice President Further Education We wish all the newly elected officers a good time in office We are looking forward to working with them to promote and defend student rights Megan Dunn the outgoing NUS President you have done an incredible job we are proud of your contributions to the student movement Yaz Aboubakar President Habiba Amjad Vice President Academic Shaz Islam City Campus officer Delegate Nishalini Ravindran Faculty of Science and Engineering Rep Delegate Chidera Ugo Okoye A Delegate Comments No comments have been made Please log in
