    and Enology Program in Prosser WA Location is the Stillaguamish Grange 6521 Pioneer Hwy Stanwood WA Sponsored by the WSU Viticulture and Enology Program WSU Snohomish County Extension and WSU Extension you ll learn how to identify friends and foes and then devise a strategy to minimize their impact We will cover both organic and conventional approaches Full day participants will receive one copy of the new WSU Extension 2016 Grape Pest Management Guide and an opportunity to qualify for up to 5 WSDA Pesticide Certification Credits Morning session 9 00 am Noon We ll cover Brown Marmorated Stink Bug and Spotted Wing Drosophila biology and management followed by hands on time with microscopes to take a closer look at identifying these insects Emphasis will be placed on distinguishing invasive species from native and beneficial species Then we ll cover Sprayer Best Practices where you ll gain an understanding of the environmental conditions that influence spray efficacy and drift along with a discussion on how equipment choices and maintenance can influence any pest management program Before lunch we ll end with a hands on session and learn how to properly calibrate backpack sprayers including how to change sprayer nozzles maintain consistent pressure and determine volume per acre necessary Includes a discussion on whole canopy disease vs spot spraying insects and weeds Anyone raising soft fruit will find this session especially valuable not just those raising grapes Morning session is eligible for 2 WSDA Pesticide Recertification credits Afternoon session 1 00 pm 4 00 pm After lunch we ll devote the afternoon to Designing Grapevine Disease Management Programs with a special emphasis on Powdery Mildew and Botrytis Bunch Rot disease biology and management strategies Discussions will focus on integrating chemical and cultural practices for optimal control with an eye to modes
