    following is a list of recommended and useful items that you may needas a volunteer or student when you are visiting a community traveling around Ecuador and even in Quito Feel free to email us if you have any questions about what to bring or what not to bring with you The weather in Quito is spring like all the year round T shirt and jeans weather during the day but cooler at night So it is best to have extra layers with you that you can put on if you feel cold The temperature ranges from a maximum of around 27 C 80 F during the day to a minimum of around 14 C 57 F at night From November to April is the wettest season but rain is normally restricted to late afternoon showers for a couple of hours There are almost no insects in Quito due to the altitude and dryness of the climate Student and Volunteer Checklist High SPF waterproof sunblock and After Sun lotion Insect repellent A portable umbrella First aid kit and medicine especially cream gel for insect bites All natural biodegradable shampoo conditioner soap Purchase in your home country Hat or Cap against the sun for communities in the Sierra Sunglasses with UV protection Lightweight pants long sleeved shirts and T shirts Rubber boots for rainforest communities during rainy season These can be bought here for about 7 Hiking boots or sturdy shoes for hiking and walking plus lighter shoes or sandals for regular daytime wear Lightweight raincoat or rain poncho Bathing suit and rubber foam sandals Light sweater or jacket Lightweight sleeping bag or sheet liner useful but not necessary Small towel Wet wipes Small backpack for daytrips U S money in small denominations Photocopy of passport with visa stamp for Ecuador

    working in a clinic supported by the United Nations Population Fund that provides both traditional indigenous and western medical care to the predominately indigenous population of Otavalo and the surrounding areas Jambi Huasi operates under the assumption that health needs can only be addressed successfully within social and cultural context and has adopted a rights based approach of integrated services that respect cultural traditions social solidarity and reciprocity Cemoplaf Quito CEMOPLAF provides health services and products with an emphasis on sexual and reproductive health to people of low economic resources with the aim to improve the quality of life of the people of Ecuador Centro de Salud Paushiyacu Tena This is a busy clinic about 10 minutes walk from the center of Tena There are normally 3 doctors there in the mornings and 2 in the afternoons as well as 2 3 nurses throughout the day Each doctor sees between 15 20 patients making the clinic treat about 80 100 patients per day People come in for a variety of treatments and many of the patients are mothers who come in with sick children They are always quite busy and understaffed and would greatly appreciate help from suitably qualified individuals Camp Hope For medical students with little or no experience or training Camp Hope provides the opportunity to work with children with learning and motor skills difficulties helping them with basic tasks and simple movement and physiotherapy top Our Practicum partners Yanapuma has worked out agreements with a number of organizations in the health field to receive our students to carry out a practicum These range from large urban hospitals to small rural clinics and other centers that include traditional and modern medicine Many are under funded under equipped and under staffed and we are committed to trying to help
